Flora Duffy Hill is now official
A change of name for Corkscrew Hill to honour Olympic champion Flora Duffy has become official.
The old street sign was replaced with one reading “Flora Duffy Hill” yesterday to mark Ms Duffy’s triathlon triumph.
The Government announced in October that it would rename Corkscrew Hill in Devonshire in the wake of Ms Duffy’s victory at the Tokyo Games.
Ms Duffy and officials were photographed with a Flora Duffy Hill sign on October 18 – Flora Duffy Day – but the change could not be made until the Cabinet heard any objections to the proposal.
There is a one-month window after a notice is published when members of the public can object to a name change under the Public Lands Act 1984.
One objection to the proposal was received, which meant the Cabinet had to examine it.
A government spokeswoman confirmed the objection was considered at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.
She said: “Ultimately, Cabinet gave final approval to the name change.
“The sign was installed the following day.”
