Andrew Kanelos has been appointed executive chairman and chief governance officer of Bermudian-based insurer Oceanview Reinsurance Ltd.

Mr Kanelos, formerly with Transamerica Life Insurance, will direct the management activities of the company and serve on the board. He will be based in Bermuda.

Bill Egan, chairman and chief executive officer of Oceanview Holdings Limited, corporate parent of Oceanview Re, said: “As a highly experienced executive with a proven track record and broad relationships in the reinsurance industry, his wealth of knowledge, deep expertise and leadership will be invaluable in directing our team.”

With more than 20 years of experience in the life and annuity industry, including ten years in leadership roles, the former managing director of Transamerica Life Insurance’s offshore companies oversaw five of Transamerica/Aegon’s Bermuda life and reinsurance entities.

He also has experience in market research, product pricing, annuity reinsurance solutions and captive management from earlier roles at Merrill Lynch, the Chubb Group and consulting services engagements with ING’s Institutional Financial Products Division.
