Weaver leads the way in motocross
Jimmy-Lee Weaver ruled the roost in the latest round of the Bermuda Motocross Club Nationals on Sunday at Coney Island Raceway.
Weaver, racing in the 125cc B Class, scored a hat-trick of victories to upstage the challenge of Shaki Easton and Aaron Anderson. Easton rode consistently to place second overall while Anderson was stymied by crashes and punctures in finishing a disappointing sixth.
The 125cc Class was significantly closer, with Letroy Trott needing a strong finish to edge out Melonie Munro for race day honours. But the story of the class was Zico Majors, who rebounded superbly to win the last two races handily after crashing out of the first moto.
Going into the final race, Trott needed merely to finish ahead of Munro and no lower than fourth. The second he accomplished in good order but Munro, who is setting fine standards for females wishing to enter the sport, would not be easily shaken. The pair finished 2-3 with Majors well off in the distance on a borrowed bike.
Nicky Tucker captured the 85cc C Class for the second series in succession after first-place finishes in the second and third motos. Tucker overcame a third-place finish behind Drake Simmons and Jonte Smith in the opening race.
Gary Cann was unblemished in the 85cc B Class where his only rival was Anthony Grant while Kenny Mathie and Corrie Wolffe ran the board in the 50cc Class for five to seven-year-olds and eight to 12-year-old respectively.
Dave Ottel, the American rider who dominated racing during the Remembrance Day holiday weekend, will be among the guest stars when action continues on December 23.
