FA cup comeback?
Dandy Town striker Khano Smith could possibly return to Hornets line up on Sunday, has learned.
Hornets' primary threat in attack was injured while representing Bermuda against St.Vincent in last month's ill-fated Digicel Cup Tournament in St.Vincent.
The 23 year-old poacher hyper-extended his right knee challenging for possession of the ball and has been sidelined ever since.
"The coaches will sit down and make a decision as it relates to Khano (Smith) actually playing. He is very close to fully recovering but we think he may still need a bit more training and time to build strength," said Town coach Devarr Boyles yesterday.
"He looked fine Tuesday night (in training) but would like to gibe him as much time as we possibly can before we make a decision. But at this particular point it he remains probable for Sunday."
Hornets will put their FA Cup crown on the line against perennial FA Cup giants PHC Zebras away at Southampton Oval in Sunday's second round of the 2004-05 competition.
"So I won't say that Khano will definitely be back in the squad for Sunday, but it is probable," Boyles added.
The Dellwood Middle School teacher underwent trials at Oxford United this past summer and formed a vital cog in Bermuda's World Cup qualifying squad.
Smith netted a memorable hat-trick against Montserrat at the National Sports Centre last spring and in 2002 was chosen as First Team All-American for the second year in succession by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America after leading Lee-McRae College (Bobcats) of North Carolina to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
The striker led the Bobcats in scoring that year ? bagging a total of 18 goals ? before going on to sign a one-year deal with Carolina Dynamo Club in the United Soccer League (USL) Division Three in 2003.
