Residents at a Salvation Army emergency shelter received blankets and toiletries after a joint donation in the spirit of Christmas.

The Hamilton Rotary Club last week teamed up with the Fritholme Gardens Residential Estate for the donation.

Rick Richardson, the Rotary Club president elect, said: “The club is pleased to initiate this small gesture at this festive time of the year and hope that it will help make things a bit better for those at the shelter.”

The shelter houses those in need of a space away from abusive households, as well as others who have lost their home due to financial problems.

Fritholme Gardens residents collected the blankets and toiletries, which included soaps and towels, and presented them to the Hamilton Rotary Club on Wednesday.

The club then offered the items to Donna Outerbridge, the manager of the emergency shelter.
