A charity set up to protect the rights of gay people is to recruit its first executive director

OUTBermuda has also bolstered its leadership team by with the appointment of four new volunteers to its board.

Adrian Hartnett-Beasley, OUTBermuda’s chairman, said: “We realised it wasn’t feasible to remain static, and that we needed to hire to continue our work, thereby transitioning from a fully volunteer-led organisation to one with a paid position.”

The new board members are Dymin (Taylor Mardel), Ravi Pachai, Olatunji S Tucker, and Clare O’Connor.

Mr Hartnett-Beasley said: “With an expanded, diverse board and our executive director search under way, we’re keen to hit the ground running in 2022 to expand OUTBermuda’s impact on the island and make it a stronger, more sustainable resource for the LGBTQ+ community.”

The news meant OUTBermuda’s board has doubled in size, with four Bermudians bolstering the group’s existing leadership in its campaign work, fundraising, and development of programmes.

The executive director post will be a paid, part-time role to oversee OUTBermuda’s evolution.

The successful applicant will lead day-to-day operations and longer-term strategy, including increasing volunteer and education programmes to boost the community outreach part of OUTBermuda’s work.

The post holder will also be responsible for relationships with Government bodies and the business world.

The group has received a grant that will fund the position for the next three years.
