Gomez is new EVP of BMS Re unit

BMS Re, the independent specialist reinsurance broker with an operation in Bermuda, has appointed Juan Carlos Gomez as executive vice-president of BMS Re Latin America & Caribbean, effective immediately.

Mr Gomez, who will be based in London, will report to Aidan Pope, executive chairman and CEO of BMS Re Latin America & Caribbean.

In this newly created role, Mr Gomez will co-ordinate product development and the production and placement of regional FAC R/I and specialty business into the London and Continental European markets.

The company said he has more than 20 years of experience as a broker and underwriter.

Mr Gomez joins from Carpenter Marsh FAC Latin America & Caribbean, where he was deputy CEO, having previously been CEO of Guy Carpenter Colombia.

Mr Pope said: “We are very pleased that a professional of Juan Carlos’ calibre has joined the team.

“His detailed knowledge of our key strategic territories and of placing complex FAC and specialty risks into international markets will enhance BMS Re’s offering to clients, including cedants and independent retail brokers.

“With a strong track record as both broker and underwriter, Juan Carlos has a keen appreciation of what our clients really need from international carriers.”

Mr Gomez added: “I am delighted to be joining BMS Re as it expands from its Miami hub into new Latin American and Caribbean territories.
