Testing for Covid-19 is not the solution
Dear Sir,
The Bermuda Government, or rather, its small cabal exercising control over our daily lives, is continuing to foster an unhealthy psychological obsession in the country.
It wasn't intentional. The intention was the opposite, ie to protect health, but as the saying goes "the road to hell …"
The go-to response that the country can test, lockdown in various forms, and now boost itself out of this state is only continuing the paving works. Adding a new testing centre to the others already swamped and understaffed is like building a new school to overcome the shortage of teachers.
The Surgeon General of Florida, Dr Joseph Ladapo offered some good advice just this week: "We're going to be working to unwind the sort of, testing psychology that our federal leadership has managed to, unfortunately get most of the country in over the last two years. We need to unwind this testing, sort of, planning and living one’s life around testing. Without it, we're going to be sort of stuck in the same cycle. It's really time for people to be living, to make the decisions they want regarding vaccination, to enjoy the fact that many people have natural immunity."
Perhaps the Premier and Health Minister can try another tool in the toolbelt - trust that we, the ordinary citizen and resident, know what is best for ourselves and our loved ones so there is no need for continued micromanagement.
