Some pupils at Bermuda High School were learning online this week after pupils tested positive for the coronavirus.

Linda Parker, the head of school, said that staff had done everything it could to keep as many pupils in classrooms as possible.

But she added: “As a school community, we are not immune to the rising cases that we are seeing island-wide and, like many businesses and I'm sure other schools on the island, we have received some positive Covid-19 test results this week.

“As such, risk assessments have been carried out and those students deemed to be close contacts have been moved to remote learning.”

Ms Parker added: “Currently we have students who are in school and some students who are joining classes online.

“We are doing all we can to ensure as many of our students can remain on campus for in-person teaching and learning."

Staffing levels at the hospital and in the police and fire services have already been hit by the latest wave of infections, fuelled by a surge in cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
