Dominique Mayho will be keen to pick up where he left off during his previous appearance competing in the Fat Tire Massive’s One Communications Mountain Bike Race Series at Admiralty Park.

The 28-year-old rider was victorious on that occasion three years ago and now hopes lightning strikes twice when he makes his season debut at the midway stage of this campaign in tomorrow’s event.

“It’s my first race of the season and I am looking forward to it ,” Mayho told The Royal Gazette. “The last time I did Admiralty House was in 2019 which I won and hoping and trying to do again.”

Mayho is relishing a return to the series, which has strived to stage races during the pandemic.

“I’ve been looking at the results from the past races and wanted to get in to it,” he added.

“They done a really great job keeping it going this season with Covid and stuff so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mayho was once a regular on the domestic mountain bike circuit before embarking on a stint competing in road racing abroad.

“I used to compete in mountain bike a long time ago,” he said. “I pretty much competed from when I started in 2009 to around 2015 and then I stopped once I was racing full time overseas.”

Since then the highly decorated cyclist has been limited to making cameo appearances in the annual series.

“I’ve been on and off,” he added. “I’ll do like one or two races a year or something like that.”

Mayho admits the transition from road racing to mountain biking is challenging.

“It’s a big transition from road to mountain bike,” he said. “The power is similar but all the technical stuff with mountain bike makes it a bit more tricky.

“I don’t really ride my mountain bike so I’m not as confident on the mountain bike as I am on the road bike.

“However, it should be fun and it’s a race so I’m going to race as hard as I can.”

Mayho is also looking forward to testing his skills on the new course at Admiralty Park.

“Admiralty House is a really good course the way the Fat Tire Massive guys have set it up this year,” he said. “It’s a really cool course.

“I have been out there twice so far doing practice rides and it’s some trails that I haven’t ridden on and a set of stairs that I’ve never raced on so it’s pretty fun.”

Mayho will be up against the likes of series leader Alan Potts, who holds a 17-point advantage over nearest rival Chris Nusum in the open male 60 minute division. James Holloway sits in third just a point back.

Ashley Robinson leads the open female 60 minute division by 19 points over second placed Jennifer Wilson. Liana Medeiros is in third another 12 points off the lead pace.

Sherman Darrell is the leader in the open male 30 minute division by five -points over nearest rival Maceo Dill. Mark Da Ponte and Justin Horsfall are tied for third another eleven -points adrift.

Jennifer Lightbourne holds a nine-point lead over Christine Soutter in the open female 30 minute division.

Zina Jones sits in third a farther eight points back.

Jackson Langley leads the male 13 to 16 division by nine- points over second placed Gordon Smith. Eight-points adrift in third is Ollie Hayward respectively.

Skye Ferguson holds a commanding 47-point advantage over sole rival S’Nya Cumbermack in the female 13 to 16 division.

Makao Butterfield leads the male 12 and under division by 14 points over second placed Jeon Wolfe.

Ray Richardson sits in third a farther nine -points off the lead pace.

Kelise Wade holds a 19-point lead in the female 12 and under division over nearest rival Journee Belboda. Ruby Cook sits in third, a farther five-points back.
