A major US health watchdog has advised travellers not to travel to Bermuda because of Covid-19 dangers.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention moved Bermuda up a tier yesterday from Level 3 – high risk – to the top Level 4, classed as very high risk.

The change was made after the number of active cases shot up by 603 to 1,953.

The CDC website warned: “Avoid travel to Bermuda.

“If you must travel to Bermuda, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel.”

The CDC added: “Because of the current situation in Bermuda, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants.”

The organisation has a four-tier warning system to categorise Covid-19 levels – low, moderate, high and very high.

The island was one of 22 countries the CDC moved to Level 4 yesterday.
