Children have been sent to school without parents waiting for clear coronavirus test results and some have later been found to be infected, health officials said last night.

Kim Wilson, the health minister, warned parents that children should not return to the classroom without a clear test.

She added there had been a lot of queries on when Covid-19 vaccination would be approved for children aged 5 to 11.

She said the vaccine for this age group was not available through Public Health England.

Ms Wilson added that the ministry was “trying to source a supply as quickly as possible”.

Officials said that parents who took 12-year-olds for boosters had to take identification for their children.

Those eligible for booster jabs are now being sent appointments by e-mail.

The e-mails are specific to each recipient, and the links contained must not be shared with others.

Ms Wilson reminded the public to follow health guidance and download the WeHealth Bermuda app.

People recently out of quarantine or isolation should also monitor their health and check for symptoms.

Ms Wilson said: “These last few years have certainly taken its toll on many of us, both physically and emotionally.

“There is no need to suffer in silence.
