Bermuda has welcomed some of the world’s most influential young business leaders for a month-long residency programme.

The event, organised by the business magazine Forbes, will see 30 “innovators, game-changers and disrupters” on the island to mentor and network with local businesses.

The event will start tonight with a reception and a welcoming speech from David Burt, the Premier.

About 20 Bermudian entrepreneurs will be paired with Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneurs in partnership with the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.

The Bermudians will get a weekly mentor meeting to help to develop their business ideas and scale their product or service.

The group will take part in a Shark Tank-like competition at the end of the month, which will feature several island entrepreneurs who will present their “elevator pitches” and they will also get the views of a panel of business leaders.

In addition to the mentorship programme, participants have identified island sustainability programmes that will include marine clean-ups and micro-forestry planting activities, among other community schemes.

Charles Jeffers II, the chief executive officer of the Bermuda Tourism Authority, which is supporting the event, said: “We are thrilled that Forbes chose Bermuda for its first-ever, month-long residency programme.

“This group of innovators and business leaders from around the world are here to work and network and will also have plenty of time to explore and enjoy the island.

“They expressed interest in working with the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation while they are here and have developed a programme to mentor local entrepreneurs and share their experience and success with Bermuda’s own young budding business innovators.

“We are happy to be able to welcome this group in full compliance with remaining travel protocols and guidelines. It really is about getting back to business.”

Tim Morrison, the general manager of the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, where the event will be held, added: “This month-long event will not only showcase the island to the global audiences of the 30 Under 30 ‘listers’, but will also have an extremely positive — and immediate — impact on Bermuda’s tourism economy.

“As the island's recovery continues in 2022, these kinds of high-profile events help to illustrate that Bermuda is back as a world-class destination.”
