Nahki Wells, the Bristol City striker, made the most of his opportunity, after coming off the bench to grab a late consolation in his team’s 3-1 defeat away to Blackpool in the Sky Bet Championship at Bloomfield Road Stadium on Saturday.

The Bermuda captain came on as a 74th minute substitute and tapped in Jay Dasilva's pass in the box, twelve minutes later for his second goal of the season.

It was the second straight match that saw Wells getting among the goals, having netted a brace for the City Under-23s against Cardiff City in the Professional Development League 2 last Tuesday.

Cardiff had two failed attempts to sign the 31-year on loan until the end of the season before the January transfer window closed the previous day.

Blackpool led 2-0 at the break on goals from CJ Hamilton and Gary Madine while Josh Bowler added another early strike in the second half to virtually kill the game before Wells pulled one back for the visitors.

“We conceded three really poor goals from our own perspective and it was a first half where I don't think there was that much in the game,” Nigel Pearson, the City manager, commented on the club’s website.

“We were unable to manage the ball in such a fluid way that we have done recently and the goals we conceded were really poor. Then straight after half time, the next goal is always going to be important, so to concede such a poor goal, it gave us too much to do.

"They were avoidable goals because we had opportunities to clear the ball but we didn't do it.“

City are seventeenth in the Championship standings, 14 points above the relegation zone.

Wells, who joined City for £4 million on a 3½-year deal from Burnley during the January transfer window in 2020, last started a game in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat at home against Fulham on January 8.
