Motorcyclist fined and banned for causing GBH while impaired
A Warwick man was banned from the road for three years and fined $1,500 for causing an incapacitating injury to another motorcyclist while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Tokeio Matthie-Crofton, 25, was riding his motorcycle east on South Road in Warwick on July 5, 2020 just before 4.45pm when he attempted to overtake two taxis while negotiating a left hand bend.
He collided with a male motorcyclist who was heading in the opposite direction, Magistrates’ Court heard.
The other motorcyclist sustained a compound fracture to his right leg and bruising to his right arm while Matthie-Crofton sustained minor abrasions to his hands and arms in the crash.
Officers at the scene noted that the traffic was light, the weather was fine, that Matthie-Crofton’s eyes were glazed and his breath smelled of alcohol.
Matthie-Crofton admitted he had been drinking and was arrested. Blood samples showed he had 197mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit is 80 mg.
He was found guilty of impaired driving causing grievous bodily harm.
