House returns after surprise resignation of Curtis Dickinson as finance minister
The House of Assembly will return today for the first time since Curtis Dickinson’s shock resignation as finance minister.
David Burt, the Premier, has taken over the key role with a week to go before the blueprint for the next financial year is unveiled on February 25 and Mr Dickinson will take a seat on the back benches.
The session will see several ministerial statements, including an update on schools and the Covid-19 pandemic.
MPs will also get an update on the Tynes Bay incinerator, which has suffered a string of breakdowns in recent times, and Kim Wilson, the health minister, will talk about the new five-year plan for the island’s healthcare system.
Teen Dating Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month will be discussed.
There will be statements on improving enforcement in the island’s marine Exclusive Economic Zone and on the automation of immigration department systems.
Lawrence Scott, the transport minister, will discuss the new fleet of electric buses.
Bills being introduced include the Municipalities Amendment Act 2022.
Ms Wilson will also place Covid-19 quarantine amendment article before MPs.
Regulations governing merchant shipping, including the prevention of pollution, will also be tabled.
The Matrimonial Causes (Faultless Divorce) Amendment Act 2022 will get a second reading, along with the Equality Act 2021.
The Gaming (Designated Site) Order 2022, tabled by Mr Burt this month, will also be considered.
