German tall ship towers over Front Street
A German tall ship docked on Front Street has turned heads this week.
The Alexander Von Humboldt II, a tall ship used for sail training, arrived in Bermuda on Wednesday after it set out from the Dominican Republic earlier this month.
The ship — nicknamed Alex — is expected to depart for Horta in the Azores on February 21.
The Alexander von Humboldt II visited the island in 2017 as part of a Tall Ships Regatta.
The three-masted, 65m ship was launched in 2011 and is operated by the German Sail Training Foundation, based in Bremerhaven.
The Alexander Von Humboldt II carries up to 55 trainees along with a permanent crew of 24.
The ship replaced the original Alexander Von Humboldt, which was built in 1906 and used for sail training between 1988 and 2011.
