Jahtuere Trott leads Tigers to close win over spirited Docksiders
Lindo’s Tigers came out on top 33-31 in an exciting Bermuda Netball Association Winter League match on Saturday at Bernard Park, relegating Docksiders to their sixth straight loss in the competition.
Jahtuere Trott led the way for Tigers with 18 goals and she received strong support from Charlene Gomez, who added 15, with Apryl Jackson walking away with MVP honours for the team.
Charlie Bridgman produced an impressive return of 25 goals in a losing effort for the spirited Docksiders, who had Olivia Bugg named as their MVP.
Danielle Raynor bagged 27 goals to lead Phoenix Heat to a commanding 43-20 victory over Storm in the other senior division contest on the schedule.
Ebonie Burgess was the next best scorer for Heat, helping herself to 13 goals while Nabiilah Nasir scored 11 for Storm.
Dominique Richardson was named MVP for Heat, while Amali Smith took the prize for Storm.
In the lone under-17 match on the schedule, Storm got the better of North Village Red 24-11 on the back of Imani Burgess’s 14 goals. She received support from Anaya Burt, who scored 10 goals. Anisa Seon walked away with the MVP nod for Storm.
Ariana Sabir was the main scorer for Village, with her nine goals ultimately not proving enough for her team. The MVP award went to Sanaa Berkeley.
In the under-14 category, North Village Reds produced two wins, beating Storm Thunder 36-3 and Storm Lightning 20-5.
In their first game, MVP Navaeh Swan got 17 goals and Razeeyah Robinson, eight, to power the Reds over Thunder in a lopsided contest. Ra’eesah Robinson, who scored 10 goals, did most of the damage for Village in their win over Storm Lightning with 10 goals, one more than Swan.
Storm Lightning did manage a win on the day, hammering North Village Whites 20-2 with Jazaya Brimmer scoring 11 goals and Jamir Hatherley adding six.
A miserable day for Storm Thunder was compounded by their 32-1 loss at the hands of Phoenix Embers, who had Makaylie Smith scoring 11 goals with Hailey Trott providing support with 10.
In the other game in the division, Rangers got by North Village Whites 5-3 with Saajida Daniels and Aniyah Minors getting all the goals for their respective teams.
Phoenix Sparks and Rangers both enjoyed two wins in the under-11 division.
Sparks defeated North Village 12-5 and 8-2 with Shiloh Simmons leading all scorers in the first encounter with six goals against Villages’ Dani Brown who scored all five of her team’s goals.
In the second game, Kim-Mora Mallory’s four goals led the way for Sparks.
Meanwhile, Rangers stopped Storm 6-5 and 8-3 respectively in their two clashes.
E’Rynn Paynter scored five goals in both games for Rangers to help her team to their contrasting wins.
