Football off as referees down tools
The Bermuda Football Association has announced that all matches scheduled for today have been postponed because of a work stoppage by referees.
The Royal Gazette understands that officials were abused at matches yesterday, prompting the Bermuda Referees Association to take this decision in support of its dwindling membership.
Several matches in the past few weeks have been postponed because of a shortage of officials, with this action now throwing the situation in crisis mode.
A fuller statement from the BFA has been promised.
The matches affected are PHC v Southampton Rangers and St George’s v X-Roads in the Premier Division, and Boulevard v Hamilton Parish and Wolves v Paget in the First Division.
Already postponed before this action because of the official shortage had been Dandy Town v North Village in the Premier Division, and Vasco v St David’s and Ireland Rangers v BAA in the First Division.
