Kudos for spread on the great Champ
Dear Sir,
Thank you for publishing the excellent biography of Alma “Champ” Hunt in The Royal Gazette of February 28, 2022.
As a child in Perth, Scotland, I had the pleasure of watching Champ Hunt in action on the cricket field. Crowds at matches increased significantly when Aberdeenshire, for whom Champ played, were playing. A rapturous crowd applauded his sixes and his bowling. He was a sportsman par excellence, a hero to young people, and a delightful personality who was always patient with the crowds of young boys who wanted his autograph.
Many years later, I had the privilege of teaching with Champ’s wife, Elmira, and this allowed me to spend some time with him. He liked nothing better than to recall his days as a professional cricketer in Scotland, and as a storyteller he was highly entertaining and informative. I also had the pleasure of teaching economics to his daughter, Beverley.
The full page in the Gazette outlining Champ’s life was superb and thanks are due to Meredith Ebbin for capturing the essence of a great man, a superb sportsman and an outstanding Bermudian.
