Alternative sleep aid machines available after product recall
A local organisation has moved to reassure those with sleep-related breathing disorders that it has assisted breathing equipment available on the island after other suppliers experienced product recalls.
Josh Dyball, sleep technician for the Bermuda Centre for Sleep Disorders, said that some customers had been attempting to source positive airway pressure machines - PAP machines - from overseas.
He said they were at risk of having to wait for extended periods of time without their machines which could have serious health implications.
Mr Dyball was speaking in light of a Philips branded PAP machine being recalled after carcinogens were found in degraded sound abatement foam within the units.
He said: “We are trying to ensure that patients continue their therapy and are not going untreated – that poses a health risk as well.
“Philips recalled its PAP machines due to a carcinogenic component inside of the machine – we have no idea how long it will take to rectify that – but we have a different brand available.
“Patients can get the machines through co-pay with their insurance company.
“Patients who have any questions or concerns should consult with their physician.”
The company is an authorised representative for ResMed brand products and carries CPAP, APAP, Bilevel units as well as accessories.
It is located at Serenity #8 The Lane, Paget PG05 and can be contacted by phone on 236-5298.
