Bermuda’s Dwayne Pearman and Nick Jones will be among those competing for honours at the Trinidad and Tobago Open.

The 54-hole event will be held at the St Andrews Golf Club in Moka, Maraval, from March 18 to 21.

Jones is making his debut at the championships and is looking forward to the new experience.

“I am really looking forward to the Open,” he told The Royal Gazette. “I have never been to Trinidad or played in this event.

“Dwayne has played the course a few times, so I will definitely get some advice from the seasoned pro.”

The 32-year-old professional is going in with plenty of momentum, having finished joint winner along with amateur Damian Palanyandi in the inaugural Moon Gate Tour opener, in his previous tournament appearance at Port Royal Golf Course last month.

“I am honoured to be the joint winner of the Moon Gate Tour with Damian, who is a great amateur golfer,” Jones added.

“I look forward to battling with local professionals and amateurs because the level of competition is getting better and better. I think this Tour is a great beginning to improving everyone’s game.”

Jones is on the verge of a remarkable hat-trick having also won a maiden Bermuda Professional Golfers Association Championship title last month.

It is this sparkling run of form which prompted Pearman to urge Jones to compete in the Trinidad and Tobago Open.

“I just told Nick to go because he is playing pretty good,” Pearman said. “I told him he has a good chance of winning that tournament.

“He is playing good golf and stuff, so he should go. He has turned his game up and is hungry, which is good to see.

“I think he should play pretty good down there, and hopefully he does well.”

As for the par-72 layout at St Andrews Golf Club, Pearman added: “It’s a nice little course. It has a couple of challenging holes, but it’s a good track and nice to play.”
