Action continues at National Squash Championships despite Covid setback
Defending champion and No 1 seed Rachel Barnes received a walkover through to the final of the Women’s Open division at the Bermuda National Squash Championships after her semi-final opponent tested positive for Covid-19.
“Due to a positive Covid test, two of our top seeds in the Women’s Open draw unfortunately had to withdraw, leaving an open bracket in our draw, which means Rachel gets a walkover to the final,” Micah Franklin, the tournament director, told The Royal Gazette.
Barnes will play the winner of the remaining Women’s Open semi -final pitting No 2 seed Eilidh Franklin against No 3 seed Emma Keane on court No 2 at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association tonight.
Meanwhile, the four top seeds in the Men’s Open division have all reached the semi-finals, which will also be held tonight.
Top seed and defending champion Noah Browne will face off against No 4 seed Anaya Smith, while No 2 seed and tournament director Franklin will do battle with No 3 seed Nick Kyme.
Action continues tonight from 5.30pm.
