Government mute on incinerator consultancy contract deal
Details of a $170,000-a-year consultancy contract at the island’s troubled incinerator are being kept under wraps by the Government.
Wayne Furbert, acting minister for public works at the time, confirmed last month that a project engineer had been hired to oversee refurbishment work on the the Tynes Bay waste-to-energy plant.
Mr Furbert confirmed that a team from Europe was already in Bermuda and that the contract was worth $170,000.
But he was unable to name the consultant and did not reveal how long this person would be working on the project.
The Royal Gazette has asked the Government several times for more information on the consultancy deal, but no response has been received.
Work needed at the plant is expected to cost up to $10 million, but Mr Furbert warned that a full replacement would cost close to $150 million.
