David Maycock will put his skills to the test competing against some of the world’s elite in back-to-back appearances on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour in the United States.

The Bermudian is poised to compete in the Lubbock Sports Open in Texas as well as the Colorado Springs Open in Colorado and is confident he can be equal to the task.

“I am very confident in my ability,” Maycock told The Royal Gazette. “I just have to make shots, make spares; just keep on moving and don’t watch the competitors.”

The tournament will be held from today until Sunday at the South Plains Lanes, which Maycock is familiar with, having competed at the venue before.

“I know the characteristics of that house, so I’m hoping that will help me,” he added.

“I have had good success in that building before, so I am very confident going into Lubbock.

“I went to the tournament there a couple of years ago in that building and made a cut, so I’m looking forward to going to Lubbock, Texas again.”

However, it will be the complete opposite for Maycock when he makes his debut in unfamiliar territory competing in the Colorado Springs Open, to be held at the Harmony Bowl from March 22 to 24.

“I haven’t been to the Colorado Springs event yet, but I’m up for the task,” he said.

“I am up for the task and I’m ready to go.”

Maycock will first participate in a six-game qualifier at both events for the right to compete in the tournament proper.

“I actually have to bowl the qualifying rounds first to get into the tournaments,” he said.

“It’s like six games the day before the day of the tournament because I don’t bowl on the Tour full-time, so I don’t have enough points.

“That’s going to be on a different oil pattern, so I am looking forward to this.”

Maycock’s preparations have not been the best owing to the challenges brought on by the global Covid-19 pandemic.

“Due to Bermuda’s Covid restrictions, I haven’t trained as much as I wanted to,” he said. “But the last couple of weeks I have been able to train a lot because everything has pretty much opened up, so I’m ready to go.

“I have been bowling well in the last couple of tournaments we had, so I am looking forward to it. I just have to make shots and stay focused.”
