Heat continue dominance with win in Sylvia Eastley tournament

Phoenix Heat will be looking to continue their all-conquering campaign at Saturday’s Who’s Who Tournament, after following up their league-winning form with victory in the senior division of the Sylvia Eastley Tournament last weekend.

After topping the Winter League following an unbeaten campaign, Heat further demonstrated their dominance with victories over Lindo’s Tigers and Storm to successfully defend yet another crown and will be pushing to make it three successful title defences this weekend.

In Saturday’s Sylvia Eastley action, Heat stopped Tigers 14-4 before registering consecutive victories over Storm, first beating them 9-8 before taking home a 12-6 win to secure top honours in the double elimination tournament.

Storm enjoyed 15-7 and 16-5 wins over North Village, who edged Tigers 9-6 in the other game.

In the under-16 Sylvia Eastley Tournament, Storm ran out winners after close victories over North Village and Phoenix Fire.

They stopped Village 4-2 before getting the better of Phoenix Fire 7-4 and 6-3. Fire edged Village 5-3 in the other game in the competition.

In under-14 action, Phoenix Embers registered a big 23-7 victory over Storm Lightning, while Storm Thunder got the better of North Village Whites 11-8.

Makaylie Smith scored 15 goals to lead the Embers to their victory over Lightning with support from Sydney Santos and Kammie Mills, who both scored four.

Jazya Brimmer scored five goals for Lightning, while Jamir Hatherley added two.

Smith was named MVP for Embers along with Uni Simmons with Keyahnae Burgess receiving the MVP award for Lightning.

In the Storm Thunder and Whites contest, Malaysia Furbert led the way with five goals while Ameerah Outerbridge scored four and Amari Burgess two for Storm Thunder in their victory.

Naomi Crofton was named as MVP for Storm Lightning.

Starr Brown scored five goals for Whites in a losing effort with Muryah Swan’s three goals providing support.

Meanwhile, the under-11 Harold Doc Dowling Tournament was won by Storm, who defeated Phoenix Sparks and North Village on their way to the title. They were held 2-2 by Rangers in their other game.

Storm first got the better of Sparks 8-2 before beating Village 12-2.

In the other games, Rangers slammed Village 8-0, Sparks stopped Village 3-2, while Rangers got the better of Sparks 4-0.

North Village Reds will face Storm Lightning at 6:00pm today in a make-up match in the under-14 category. On Friday Rangers will play Storm Thunder at 6:00pm and Phoenix Embers will tackle North Village Reds at 7:00pm at Bernard Park in other under-14 matches.

On Saturday, league matches will conclude in the under-14 category while the Merle Parfitt tournament for under-11 and under-17 teams will also take place with senior teams contesting the Who’s Who tournament.
