David Maycock makes early exit from Colorado Springs Open

David Maycock

David Maycock stumbled at the first hurdle competing at the Colorado Springs Open on Tuesday, while competing in trying conditions at the Harmony Bowl in Colorado.

Maycock, despite his efforts, was eliminated from the initial six-game A Squad Pro Tour Qualifier for the right to advance to the main event and finished 36th among the international field of 65 bowlers with a total series score of 1,694.

“Not advancing from the Colorado Springs Open was a little disappointing, but I gave my all,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“I didn’t bowl bad, I just couldn’t string the strikes together to keep up with the scoring pace. The lanes are always changing, and I couldn’t adjust enough to strike.”

The event was Maycock’s second in five days in the United States, having also competed at the Lubbock Sports Open in Texas, held from March 18 to 20.

He finished 40th among an international field of 71 bowlers that competed at the South Plains Lanes after advancing from another six-game A Squad Pro Tour Qualifier for the right to compete in the main event.

“Overall, I am happy with my performances at the two events,” Maycock added.

“The only way to get better is to compete with these guys on a regular basis. You live and learn and I will try to bowl some more events later this year.

“I just wish I didn’t have to bowl the PTQ qualifying round. It’s like added pressure, but it is what it is. I will never give up and I will win one day.”

Maycock thanked those who continue to support him in his endeavours on the lanes.

“I just want to say to all the people that support me and a big thank you to the Bermuda Olympic Association for their continued support,” he said. “It’s a learning process out here. That’s what you have to do.”
