Sanitation workers at the City of Hamilton were recognised for their contributions to the island with an awards ceremony at City Hall.

The city’s Sanitation and Engineering Department was presented with the Chairman’s Award for its work throughout Hamilton by the Becan Collection, a small online publisher that aims to promote small businesses in North Hamilton.

Charles Gosling, the Mayor of Hamilton, said the award was presented to groups and companies who provided extraordinary service to the community.

Mr Gosling thanked the Becan Collection for its recognition of the outstanding work carried out by the staff.

He said: “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication to the city throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These teams were not only able to keep Hamilton efficiently running, but also clean, safe and up to the high standards which the City of Hamilton is known for.”

The Becan Collection had initially intended to present the award in 2020, but the ceremony was delayed due to Covid-19.

Charles Leon O’Brien, the Becon Collection founder, said the City of Hamilton staff represented the best of Bermuda.

He said: “They are a team of people working together for the betterment of the community.”

Mr O’Brien said he wanted all of Bermuda to show their support for the city’s staff and was thrilled to be able to use the award to highlight the unsung heroes of the island’s capital.
