Chances at a premium as Hood and Cougars play out tame draw
Robin Hood 0 Devonshire Cougars 0
Robin Hood and Devonshire Cougars played to a scoreless draw last night at Goose Gosling field, in a match that produced very little in the form of positive football.
Although both teams entered the match sitting at mid-table with little to play for, it was not so much a lack of effort that induced a stalemate, but rather a lack of composure while in possession. They were both hasty in their attack, with the ball exchanging hands quite frequently, reducing the match to a midfield battle with clear cut chances at a premium.
After a delayed start due to insufficient match officials, the match got under way, 20 minutes late with a member of the grounds staff taking up the flag to complete the officiating trio.
The first few minutes of the game actually showed good promise, particularly for the Cougars, as they had a couple of good looks early on.
Drewonde Bascombe was first up with his hard and low free kick from distance that beat the wall going inches wide of the post as veteran goalkeeper Timmy Figureido looked on. Moments later, Elisha Darrell received a pass in his stride that gave him the half step on the defence but he only managed to pull his effort wide of the post as well.
These would prove to be the only two chances of the half with neither goalkeeper being called into action until after the interval.
Robin Hood would have the better of the second half exchanges and looked particularly menacing from set pieces.
Daniel Cook caused real problems with his inswinging corners and free kicks that were being met by the likes of Dante Levrock and Jaylon Bather. Both had a couple of good headers from close range but were thwarted on every occasion by the positioning of experienced goal keeping of Ricardo Brangman.
Cougars made a number of substitutions midway through the half bringing on some of their young players who seemed determined to make the most of the opportunity.
Chadwayne Johnson and Ari Cannonier combined well down the right flank on a couple of occasions with the latter finding space in behind.
Cannonier produced the first shot on target for his team when he received a through ball just inside the box and forced Figuerido to parry the ball around the near post for a corner. The pair would combine again, this time with Cannonier driving a low cross into the box, but the ball flashed across the face of the goal untouched.
Neither team would come any closer to scoring and they would eventually have to settle for a share of the spoils.
