Customs conference to be staged here

The Council is an international organisation which has a mandate to improve the level of cooperation and the exchange of information within the Caribbean zone.
The organisation comprises some 37 member countries, and seven international organisations.
Seventy delegates from more than 30 countries are expected to attend the annual conference, which is from Tuesday November 29 to Thursday December 1.
Governor Lord Waddington will open the conference at 9 a.m. at the hotel.
BIG BOOST FOR THE SUNSHINE LEAGUE FNR Big boost for the Sunshine League The Sunshine League Home for Children was $50,000 richer this week thanks to a donation from the Bank of Bermuda Centennial Trust Fund.
The money will go towards major renovations which began in August and is expected to be completed by February next year, said spokesman Mrs. Lyn Tucker.
Tag day for the home is on December 2 and 3. Members of the public are asked to support the non-profit organisation which provides a safe haven for children in need.

DISQUALIFIED, FINED FOR DRUNK DRIVING CTS Disqualified, fined for drunk driving Driving while impaired by alcohol and causing an accident cost a Hamilton parish man $600, in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Calvin Burgess 28, of Workman's Lane pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting Sgt. Cyril Plant told the court that at 6.15 a.m. on October 15 Police attended a two-vehicle accident on Verdmont Road in Smith's Parish.
"Burgess was driving west on the road and lost control causing him to collide with another vehicle,'' Sgt. Plant said.
He added that Police noticed that Burgess' breath smelled of alcohol and they arrested him on suspicion of driving while impaired.
A breath test showed that Burgess had 157 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Sgt. Plant also told the court that Burgess had previous convictions for driving while impaired.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told Burgess: "It looks like impaired driving is a real problem for you.'' He fined Burgess $600 and disqualified him from all vehicles for three years.
ELDERLY RECOMMENDED TO GET FLUE SHOTS HTH Elderly recommended to get flu shots Bermuda's Acting Chief Medical Officer has recommended the elderly get flu jabs.
Dr. David Barber's advice also extends to diabetes and HIV sufferers, and those with heart problems.
"The Health Department does have a flu vaccine, and I would certainly recommend people with chronic illnesses go down there.'' Dr. Barber, who runs a children's clinic in Victoria Street, said he was unaware of any flu outbreak at present.
"I did get one child in today with the flu, but there is no outbreak from my experience, and I see a pretty good cross-section of people.'' He added: "It is a little early for an outbreak. January is usually the worst time.''
