Outerbridge inspires Bay to victory over Rangers
Southampton Rangers, 308 for seven, lost to Bailey’s Bay, 317 for six, by four wicketsStephen Outerbridge played a genuine skipper’s innings to anchor visiting Bailey’s Bay to a four wicket win against Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval yesterday.The national team player stroked a chanceless and unbeaten 133 and along with wicketkeeper Sinclair Smith added 130 runs for the third- wicket as Bay successfully chased down Rangers’ formidable total of 308 for seven to keep their unblemished record in all competitions intact.Outerbridge smashed five sixes and nine fours to keep the visitors firmly on course for victory over a side that has enjoyed the better of them in recent years.Smith, who proved to be the perfect foil for his skipper, belted 59 in a knock that contained four boundaries.Bay were 305 for six at the cut off time (7:02pm), three runs shy of their target. But they were awarded 12 runs after Rangers were penalised for a slow bowling rate that was more than enough to guarantee the visitors victory.Jason Wade led the Rangers bowling with two for 48 while there were three run outs.Earlier, Rangers posted what appeared to be a safe total after electing to bat.Openers Dion Stovell (78) and Curtis Jackson (45) got the hosts off to a flyer after adding 108 runs for the first -wicket.Stovell added a further 90 runs for the second- wicket with Kwame Tucker (77) before Rangers lost two wickets in the space of 15 runs, including the prized scalp of player/coach Janeiro Tucker (one).Some heavy hitting lower down the order from Ian Armstrong (44) who added 69 runs with Kwame Tucker carried Rangers past the triple century mark.Yet despite producing one of their highest totals of the season so far Rangers came out on the losing end when victory seemed theirs for the taking.Rodney Trott (two for 40) and Ryan Steede (two for 57) were the pick of the Bay bowling.St David’s, 279 all out, beat Cleveland County, 169 all out, by 110 runsSkipper Fiqre Crockwell shone with bat and ball to inspire St David’s to a comfortable win against Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval.Batting at number three, Crockwell thumped 50 from 51 balls as the visiting Islanders piled up a formidable total.The St David’s skipper then capped a fine all round display by bagging figures of four of 18 to see the Islanders to victory in this lopsided affair.Others making significant contributions for the Islanders with the bat were Loren Marshall who top scored with 85 and Rudell Pitcher who chipped in with 47.St David’s found themselves in a spot of bother at 103 for five. But a 71 -run sixth-wicket stand between Marshall and Pitcher dragged the Islanders out of a hole and laid the foundation for their big total.Marshall belted three sixes and ten fours and reached his half century off 77 deliveries while Pitcher’s whirlwind innings contained three sixes and six fours.Earlier, skipper Crockwell slammed two sixes and five fours and reached his half -century off 47 balls before St David’s suffered a mini collapse.Seamer Shakai Darrell was the pick of the Cleveland bowling with three for 45 while Allan Douglas Jr claimed two for 42 respectively.Cleveland were generous in the field, giving away 26 runs in extras that included 16 wides and six no balls.The hosts came up well short in their reply, with opening bat Jason Anderson leading the resistance with an unbeaten half- century before his team was dismissed in the 39th over of the innings.Anderson stroked 69 in a knock that contained two sixes and eight boundaries.Next high man for Cleveland was Ramar Simmons who stroked 35 and along with Anderson added 75 runs for the first wicket.At one stage Cleveland were 75 without loss before losing all of their wickets with the addition of 94 runs in the space of 16 overs.Supporting Crockwell in the St David’s bowling attack was seamer Justin Pitcher who claimed three for 28 off five overs that included a maiden.Willow Cuts, 403 for seven, beat Devonshire Rec, 36 all out, by 367 runsWillow Cuts buoyed their championship credentials with their enormous win over relegation threatened Devonshire Rec, beating their guests by 367 runs at Somerset Cricket Club.Winning the toss and sending the hosts to bat, Devonshire were always on the back foot after a 78 run first wicket partnership between Joshua Commisiong (23) and Chris Douglas (140).It wasn’t to be with the visitors, with brothers Dexter (84) and Dwight Basden (41 not out) supplying the impetus to reach the bulking total the side did reach.Deshaun Hendrickson and Shaquille Trott both claimed two wickets each.In reply, the chase never got going with Dennis Williams (9) and Ajani Daniels (6) being the leading scorers as they were bowled out 16.2 overs.Malachi Jones and Sheroy Fubler both claimed five wickets, while Chris Douglas grabbed the other wicket in the match.
