Court Street was bustling with activity today with dozens of vendors lined up offering a variety of treats for customers.

The Court Street Market drew a steady stream of people this afternoon, with performances by entertainers including Toni Robinson, Seven & Sweet T, Septimus and the Anointed Steps Dance Ministry expected to draw larger crowds as the event continues into the evening.

While blustery conditions presented challenges for some vendors, there was a festive atmosphere.

One vendor said: “The weather could be better, but the rain has held off and people are coming out.

“Hopefully things will pick up more as the day goes on, but it feels good to be out right now.”

Jerome Smith said he was impressed by the offerings at the various stalls, but his daughter, Jada, was even more excited.

He said: “I think we have bought enough cookies to last the next two weeks.

“It’s really starting to feel a bit more like things are getting back to normal and I’m happy to be able to help support folks trying to get a business going.”

Customers who spend more than $25 will be entered in a raffle with a 65in TV as the top prize.

Raffle ticket holders also take part in an Easter egg pick, where the chocolate delight they receive will contain a present, such as candies, toys, raffle tickets or a discount coupon for area businesses.

The market programme was spearheaded by retailers to promote the area as a shopping destination and encourage people to buy Bermuda.

The North Hamilton event has been sponsored by the City of Hamilton and the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.

More markets will be run on May 22, June 19, and July 24 and further dates are scheduled to be announced soon.
