Two artists will show their work to help boost a charity that renovates homes for families.

Sheilagh Head and Andy Detzer will exhibit pieces to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda with an event at the charity’s ReStore on Front Street this Thursday.

Sheelagh Cooper, the chairwoman of Habitat Bermuda, said that Ms Head’s land and seascapes were “absolutely her best work yet”.

She added: “It’s so exciting to see her new abstracts that are just delicious.

“These are beautifully contrasted with Andy Detzer‘s dazzling Gombeys.

“Andy’s large and brilliantly coloured Gombeys are eye popping, as many awards that he has received attest.”

Ms Cooper said: “The evolution of the Habitat store has been quite amazing to watch.

“As more and more art has been donated, it has gradually become as much an art gallery as it is a source of high end and previously owned furniture.

“Our location and the vast amount of window space has made the store ideal for the display of art.”

She highlighted that visitors from the United States and Canada were familiar with Habitat for Humanity, which was founded in the US in 1976.

Internationally, the organisation has built and renovated more than 400,000 homes with families in need.

Ms Cooper said that tourists who had Habitat ReStores in their own neighbourhoods were often "delighted to pop in to see what a Bermuda version“ was like.

She added: “If anything, the store benefited from Covid, as people trapped at home began to look around them and decide it was time for a change.

“So many folks were generous enough to donate their household furnishings to the ReStore, and often, in the process, would pick up a chair here or lamps there, making it profitable.

“It’s lovely to see people’s increasing commitment to saving the planet through reusing, repurposing and recycling.

“All of this has been a tremendous boom to our capacity to continue to meet our goal of 12 to 15 projects a year.”

Each of the two artists has donated one piece of work as a raffle prize for the event, which will run from 4pm to 6.30pm on April 21.
