At least six Bermudian students will be involved in UK schools finals in the coming weeks when Brooke House College, based in Leicestershire, play in five title matches in three age groups.

Four of these matches will be played at Stoke City’s BET 360 Stadium and the other at the Hawthorns, home of Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Brooke House will play four of the finals next week, with their Under-16 and Under-18 teams in action. On Monday at 3.30pm (UK time), the Under-18s, involving Bermudian Deniche Hill, will play their first of two finals against Sandringham in the ESFA Schools B Team Cup National final.

That will be followed by a second final at 5.30pm when Brooke House play against Hurstmere in the Under-16s ESFA Schools Cup National final.

Four Bermudian students, Jutorre Burgess, Bakari Furbert, Keiaron Bean and Nataniel Swan, will be involved with Brooke House in that match.

On Tuesday, the Under-16s will play in another final, this time against Gordon’s in the ESFA Small Schools National final at the BET 365 Stadium at 6pm.

Hill and his Under-18 team-mates will play in their second final next Thursday (1.30pm), again at the BET 365 Stadium, this time against London Nautical in the ESFA Super League National final.

The school’s remaining final will be on Wednesday, May 25, at 5.30pm, when they take on Buckswood in the ESFA Schools National final at the Hawthorns. Tristan Robinson of Bermuda is a member of the Under-15 team.

Corey Hill, who works at the school as an agent and is the father of Deniche, a third-year student at the school, said to reach five finals is a major accomplishment for the institution.

“To be involved in five significant finals at the end of the school year is a true reflection of what is happening at Brooke House College,” Hill said.

“It is not a fluke when you have five finalists from four different age groups involved. I am at the training ground or at games almost every day to witness first-hand the amount of work the players and coaching staff are putting in, so it’s no real surprise to me that Brooke House finds themselves in such a unique situation.

“Whether they lose or win in these finals is irrelevant, it’s the development that has taken place to get them there in the first place that is the interesting piece.

“Training five, six days a week and playing one or two games against quality opposition weekly is what is really needed to enhance development. If you can reward yourself with a trophy along the way it’s all the better.”

Certainly Hill has enjoyed the experience of being at the school watching the development of the Bermudian players while looking out for other talent to recruit for the school in his role as agent.

“I’m not only proud of the Bermudian boys but all the other players, coaches and staff at the school that have contributed to the success of the programme, as seen,” Hill added.

“I am truly humbled to be associated with the set-up here.”
