Motorcycle rider banned for being twice the legal limit

A man was banned from the road for 18 months yesterday after he admitted riding while more than double the legal alcohol limit.

Police pulled over Milton Medeiros, 32, after they saw him riding along Middle Road in Sandys at about 70km/h, Magistrates’ Court heard.

Officers saw that he struggled to put his bike on its stand and he later admitted drinking prior to riding.

Medeiros was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he agreed to take part in a breath test.

The test showed that Medeiros, from Southampton, had 202 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

When told about the reading, Medeiros said: “It won’t happen next time.”

The incident happened in the early hours of April 16.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Medeiros $1,500 in addition to the road ban and ordered him to pay by June 16.
