Rare Bermuda banknotes sell at auction for more than $6,000

A selection of rare Bermuda banknotes sold for more than $6,000 at an auction in London today.
The highest selling Bermuda item was a £10 bill printed in 1964, which sold for £900, or about $1,130.
Another bill — a five-shilling note printed in October 1952 — had been promoted by the auctioneer as the first bill in the world to feature a portrait of the Queen after she ascended the throne in February of that year. That bill fetched £800 — just over $1,000.
There were 25 lots featuring Bermuda notes at the auction, which was held by Noonan’s auction house in London in celebration of the Queen’s platinum jubilee. The Bermuda notes sold for a grand total of £5,240, or $6,600.
