Budding nurse gets to see life at a medical centre
An aspiring nurse was put to the challenge last week when she spent two days volunteering at a medical centre.
Teizh Hall, a Year 10 pupil at Warwick Academy, was stationed in an outpatient clinical unit at Bermuda Healthcare Services in Paget as part of her school’s work experience programme.
She shadowed Mariane Umali and Jamie Leoncio, two registered nurses, and studied how to take blood pressure, triage patients and communicate throughout treatment.
Teizh also saw an EKG in action, which measures the heart’s electrical activity, observed patients getting blood work and looked over logistical matters such as scheduling follow-ups with patients.
Mahesh Reddy, the medical director of BHCS, said that Teizh showed “initiative” and “a high level of interest” in the two days she was there.
Dr Reddy added: “Bermuda Healthcare Services was delighted to assist Teizh with placement for her work experience.
“It was a pleasure to have Teizh and our team wishes her all the best with her future career endeavours."
