Jesse Washington returned to the pool as he continued competing at the Fina World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Having finished fifth in heat three of the men’s 50 metres butterfly, touching the wall in 25.59 sec, good enough for 55th out of 71 swimmers, in his opening event on Saturday, the 23-year-old was back in action yesterday in the men’s 100 freestyle.

Despite Washington finishing second in heat four in a time of 51.94 — 0.41sec behind Colins Obi Ebingha, of Nigeria — the Bermudian once again missed out on a place in the semi-finals as one of the top 16 finishers, with his time leaving him 62nd overall out of 99.

In the semi-finals, David Popovici clocked the fastest time, touching the wall in 47.13 to book his place in today’s final alongside Joshua Liendo-Edwards, Lewis Burras, Zhanle Pan, Alessandro Miressi, Brooks Curry and Maxime Grousset.

Madelyn Moore, the other Bermudian in Hungary, sees her first racing tomorrow in the 50 butterfly, followed by the 50 freestyle on Friday.
