Art auction, films to support Abolish Foundation
A trio of events are scheduled to take place next week with a part of the proceeds going to combat human rights abuses.
On March 29, the Masterworks Gallery in Botanical Gardens will be hosting Artistic Reflections of Historic Bermuda, a silent and live art auction which boasts work by several notable local artists going under the gavel.
Among the art to be featured are works by Graham Foster, Bruce Stuart, Magnus Musson, Lee Greene, Choy Aming, Jacquie Lohan, Lynn Morrell, Dockyard Glassworks, David Saul and others.
The event is the first of three that will help raise money for the Abolish Foundation, a Canadian not-for-profit corporation that supports initiatives to combat modern slavery, human rights abuses, gender inequality and environmental destruction.
The following two days, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will host the screening of a pair of documentaries, with audience members getting the chance to speak with the filmmakers, with a part of proceeds going towards the Abolish Foundation.
All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception and the Spirit of IF Stone, a documentary about the impact of the titular investigative journalist IF Stone, is set to be screened on March 30.
That film will be followed on March 31 by the documentary Where the Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey of Lawren Harris, which is a described as a portrait of the renowned Canadian artist and the landscapes that inspired him.
Both screenings will be followed by question and answer time with Peter Raymont, who served as executive producer for both films. For the second film, he will be joined by director Nancy Lang.
The showings are scheduled to begin at 6.30pm following a Sushi Happy Hour at Habourfront from 5pm to 6.30pm.
Tickets for the films cost $20 for members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students.
