Christmas Boat Parade to return after Covid disruption

A holiday favourite is to be hosted again by the City of Hamilton, which has announced dates for the Christmas Boat Parade.

The procession of lit-up boats, which was disrupted by the pandemic, is set for December 10, with December 11 as a rain date.

The Corporation of Hamilton has run the event since 2017.

Registration, via the Corporation’s website, is now open, with the deadline set for November 9.

The parade is to be hosted on alternate years to avoid clashing with the Corporation of St George’s Boat Parade.

Prizes will be given out in the categories of best overall boat, best community message, most original, people’s choice, best traditional Christmas message, most humorous and children’s choice.

Tamara Smith, the corporation’s senior events and marketing co-ordinator said the city was excited to welcome back the much-loved family event.

“To see the harbour lit up with thousands of festive lights is a truly spectacular sight and brings the magic of the holidays to people of all ages.

“We are giving the community plenty of notice this year so that people can get organised with boats, lights and holiday plans, to ensure that this boat parade is the biggest and best ever.”

Entry is free for the viewing village kids’ zone at No. 1 Car Park, with food, snacks and warm beverages for sale.

Updates will be posted on the Hamilton website, and queries can be e-mailed to events@cityhall.bm.
