A Sandys man was banned from riding motorcycles for three months after a crash in which he fractured his knee.

Kent Govia, 62, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to a single count of driving without due care and attention in an incident on December 23 last year.

The court heard that at about 1.30pm that day, he was travelling west on Somerset Road near the junction with Long Bay Road when he abruptly attempted a U-turn.

As he did so, he collided with another vehicle that had been travelling behind him.

While both vehicles were damaged and Govia injured his knee, the other rider escaped without injury.

After pleading guilty, Govia apologised for “wasting the court’s time”.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined Govia $1,000 and banned him from riding motorcycles for three months, although he said the ban would not extend to cars or auxiliary cycles.
