Nahki Wells came close to getting on the scoresheet twice as he and Bristol City battled to an exciting 3-3 draw away to Blackpool in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

The Bermuda striker nearly opened the scoring at Bloomfield Road in the first minute of play when his effort struck the upright.

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the seventh minute when Josh Bowler beat City goalkeeper Dan Bentley with a shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection.

City were back on even terms when Tommy Conway drilled home Alex Scott’s cross at the near post in the 44th minute.

Jerry Yates put Blackpool back in front in the 55th minute only for City substitute Antoine Semenyo to bring the teams level again in the 63rd minute after being on the pitch for just two minutes.

Wells went close again when he headed Dan Grimshaw’s parried free-kick onto the bar with the rebound eventually crossing the line off Blackpool defender Marvin Ekpiteta to put the visitors ahead 3-2.

At that stage City seemed to have done enough to secure the three points but were forced to settle for a share of the spoils as Theo Corbeanu grabbed a 90th-minute equaliser for the home side.

City are ninth in the Championship standings and unbeaten in their last four league outings.

Manager Nigel Pearson made seven changes to his team from the one that beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-1 in the Carabao Cup second-round in their previous outing, with Wells among those retaining their spot in the starting eleven.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Djair Parfitt-Williams scored on his debut for Finnish side Ilves in their 3-2 home defeat against Haka at the Ratina Stadium.

The 25-year-old entered the fray in the 71st minute and took only four minutes to open his account.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 16th minute through a goal from Petteri Pennanen.

However, the visitors hit back through tallies from Luiyi de Lucas and Stavros Zarokostas in the 23rd and 69th minutes to surge ahead.

Former West Ham Academy player Parfitt-Williams brought the teams level before Lee Erwin grabbed an 86th-minute winner for the visitors.
