Conditional discharge for woman attacker

A woman was shown leniency by a magistrate yesterday after she admitted an assault on an ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend and hitting another woman with a bottle.

Romel Perinchief, 38, was given an 18-month conditional discharge after she pleaded guilty to punching Rheba Simmons and another assault on the woman’s mother, Arlene.

The court heard that Ms Simmons was in a relationship with the father of Perinchief’s two children, who were staying with Ms Simmons in St George’s at the time of the offence.

Jaleesa Simons, for the prosecution, said that Perinchief visited Ms Simmons’s home on January 3 to spend time with the children before she moved to the United Kingdom.

But an argument broke out when Ms Simmons said that Perinchief had arrived before the scheduled time and refused to let her take the youngsters.

Perinchief punched Ms Simmons in the face and pulled her hair.

The court heard Ms Simmons’s car was dented as the two fought.

Ms Simmons’s parents, who live with their daughter, intervened and separated the two.

Magistrate Craig Attridge heard that Perinchief told her victim: “You watch. I’m coming back. You think you’re going to get away with this?”.

She got into her car and threw two full bottles at Ms Simmons’s mother before she drove away.

Police were later called and arrested Perinchief on January 5.

The court heard that Ms Simmons suffered neck injuries and bruises to her face and right hand.

Ms Simmons said her mother was hit in the face with one of the bottles, but was uninjured and the damage to her car was estimated at $1,280.

Bruce Swan, for the defence, said that his client had arranged with Ms Simmons to pay damages and had already handed over $1,600.

Mr Attridge gave Ms Perinchief a conditional discharge and told her that she would not have a conviction recorded if she did not commit any further offences for 18 months.
