Students’ academic interest sparked by Stem summer camp
A string of public school students aged 5 to 16 have been sponsored by the Government to join others in the Dream Spark summer camp this month.
The international programme is offered by the Miami-based entrepreneur Brandon Okpalobi, who launched his youth development programme in 2011.
Diallo Rabain, the education minister, said it had been “heart-warming” to watch youngsters enjoying sports education as well as science, technology, engineering and maths.
The camp, in its third year, hosted 42 students from August 1 to 5, with 20 attendees sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
Mr Rabain called the programme “an innovative bridge between Stem and sports education in Bermuda”.
Signature Learning programmes will be launched next month under educational reforms, with Stem to be one of the first at CedarBridge Academy.
The minister said the Stem exposure would give participants an early start.
Mr Okpalobi, founder of Dibia Dream Inc, said the group was thankful for its continuing partnership with the Bermuda Government.
He added: “Our programme is designed to be the perfect blend of Stem exposure and educational development for boys and girls ages 5 to 16.
“Attendees are motivated to pursue their dreams as they leave with the confidence to excel academically and socially.”
