Wellington Oval: (PHC won the toss) St. David’s beat PHC by 8 wickets.

St David’s maintained their unbeaten record with an astonishing 8 wicket win over PHC at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

Chasing a mediocre score of 67 runs, St. David’s finished the game off in only 7.2 overs in this lop-sided affair.

Openers Ajaun Lamb and Derrick Brangman carried St. David’s to the brink of victory as they walloped a 22-ball, 44-run partnership consisting of six fours and one six before they were both dismissed leaving youngsters Isiah O’Brien (15 not out) and Aaron Paynter (eight not out) to polish off the remainder of the runs in short order in less than eight overs.

Playing with only nine men, PHC won the toss and padded up but could muster only 67 runs as the six St David’s bowlers ripped through their batting order, knocking them down in 18.2 overs.

They were fortunate to reach that total thanks to a seventh wicket, 26-run partnership between Dev Hanuman and Chris Clarke who were the only two batsmen to score in double figures with ten and 21 runs respectively.

Player/coach Cal Waldron was the last man out, falling victim to young O’Brien’s off cutter when giving a catch at backward square leg. Eugene Ball was the pick of the St. David’s bowlers with three wickets for just five runs while O’Brien had one wicket for one run and held on to a catch.

After the match, O’Brien was keen to give credit to his team.

“It was a total team effort and everyone chipped in," he said. ”I have a lot of support from players and family. My uncle George [O’Brien] gives me a lot of tips to help my bowling and I try to execute as best I can.“
