Traffic delays after truck downs Belco pole on South Road
At least 350 residents lost electricity today after a tractor trailer was involved in an accident on South Road resulting in a broken utility pole.
It is expected that there will be traffic delays until about 4pm as Belco works to repair the damage.
Shelly Leman, the managing director of distribution, transmission and retail at Belco, said: “Our top priority first and foremost in these situations is to ensure the safety of members of the public.
“It is unfortunate that a commercial vehicle was in an accident which resulted in loss of electricity to our customers.
“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to to replace the broken pole and to reinstate all electricity lines.”
The accident took place near the Demco florists at about 11am and motorists are advised to use alternative routes until further notice.
