A US-based charity was in Bermuda distributing food to those impacted by Hurricane Fiona.

As well as Bermuda, World Central Kitchen also had teams in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Turks & Caicos and Nova Scotia, where the storm was heading from Bermuda.

Kristin White, a Bermudian business owner, met charity representatives in a chance meeting and helped them to connect with local aid organisations.

Ms White said: “They came to Bermuda on Wednesday and I met them on Thursday. They are working with restaurants to collect food but didn’t have a distribution network.

“I connected them with the Bank of Bermuda Foundation and the Bermuda Community Foundation. During the Covid-19 pandemic those two foundations came together with a resource list to help organisations. I wanted to get that list so they could work with existing organisations.

“The Bank of Bermuda Foundation had a lot of good ideas for groups doing innovative work to feed families.

“The World Central Kitchen delivered about 80 sandwiches in the immediate aftermath of the storm and were then focusing on delivering hot meals.”
