Tyler Christopher extended his flawless professional record after securing his first stoppage win against orthodox fighter Harley Marginson at Planet Ice in Solihull, England, at the weekend.

The Bermudian southpaw dictated the four-round super-welterweight bout from the opening bell before the referee stopped the contest towards the end of the second round.

“I am very happy to get the first stoppage in my fifth fight of my career,” Christopher told The Royal Gazette.

“I have only been a professional for about eleven months so five wins in eleven months, I can’t go wrong with that.”

The 26-year-old said the fight went smoothly after he had put in the necessary hard work to prepare for his first foray in the ring since April.

“The fight was easy because I trained hard,” he added. “I dedicated and put in the regular amount of training I needed to do. I train hard to make my fights easy.”

“In the first round my coach told me to go out and don’t forget the boxing,” he explained. “Everyone knows I can box, just be dominant and dictate the fight.

“He said I am the one with more experience as a professional, so let’s dictate and make this fight the way I wanted it to go.

“I worked to the body, working head shots and just pretty much overwhelming him with lots of punches and combinations to the body. His eye was starting to cut from me hitting him so much at the end of the first round.

“My coach told me he was about to go and not to let him push me back so I did just that.

“The second round, I boxed a little bit to let him get tired. I put up a high guard and let him work on the inside and then I went to work on him. His corner had seen enough and that was all she wrote.”

Christopher was originally due to face fellow southpaw Kirk Stevens but his opponent was switched in the final days leading up to Saturday’s bout due to low ticket sales.

“I was preparing for an opponent, a southpaw, and the last few days the opponent got switched which is not new territory for me,” Christopher said. “I have always had my opponent switched a couple of days before the fights.

“I was under pressure this time because I had to sell a certain amount of tickets, and I did not do too good on ticket sales this time around. But I overcame it and took my frustration out on my opponent.

“It was a good feeling to get my first stoppage. I just need some more support in people buying tickets. That way my career can progress.”
