Leadership appointments at KPMG

KPMG has announced a raft of new appointments in addition to the retirement of managing director Damion Henderson, who had been in the role since 2008.

Two new managing directors are Bron Turner and Ian Gardner.

Meanwhile, new directors on the team are Ed Fitzgerald, Jay Smith and Lesley-Jane Smith.

Mr Henderson’s retirement comes after more than two decades with KPMG starting in 1997, although he spent a short time with a local bank.

He had worked with a wide range of insurance clients from leading the firm’s captive group to leading a number of the firm’s largest audit engagements spanning 25 years.

Mr Turner has 13 years’ audit experience and joined KPMG in Bermuda in October 2013, having previously worked in South Africa and Britain.

He is part of the audit (financial services) team and has been the lead audit engagement director for several of the firm’s key clients. He leads the audits of several newly formed entities, including a Class F Digital Asset Business.

Mr Gardner brings 25 years’ experience in the insurance/financial services sector, having worked in a number of roles both in practice and industry and across a range of senior leadership roles.

He rejoined KPMG in Bermuda in January 2020 as a director, having been with the firm’s audit practice some 20 years earlier.

Ed Fitzgerald joined KPMG in Bermuda in May 2021 as the KPMG Islands Group regional head of healthcare and life sciences. A former medical doctor, he joined KPMG in Britain in 2016 and in Bermuda last year.

Jay Smith rejoined KPMG in Bermuda in September 2017 as a senior compliance manager and MLRO, having previously worked for a Bermuda bank.

Lesley-Jane Smith joined the firm in July 2020 as a senior manager in the finance department, previously working as the group financial controller with a local Bermuda company for more than seven years.

Ms Smith manages all aspects of the firm’s financial operations and fiscal management, and provides leadership and co-ordination of the business planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, accounting and reporting for the firm.
