Delray Rawlins is excited by the prospect of rejoining the national set-up as Bermuda attempt to qualify for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

The Sussex all-rounder is set resume his international career when the national team compete in the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, which is tentatively scheduled to take place in Argentina in late February and early March 2023.

“I have had a few chats and it looks like it fits well in the schedule,” Rawlins told The Royal Gazette.

“I am looking forward to being back with the boys and progress as a team. It will be interesting to see how we get on and I’m actually quite excited for it.”

Rawlins made his international T20 debut for Bermuda against the United States in the regional finals of the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, which the island hosted in 2019.

The left-handed batter finished as Bermuda’s top scorer with 130 runs from five matches as the island advanced along with tournament winners Canada to the Global Qualifier in Dubai, where coach Herbie Bascome’s team was eliminated from the competition.

Rawlins was not involved in Bermuda’s ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B commitments this summer.

The 25-year-old was scheduled to take part in the third and final leg of the competition in Jersey in August but withdrew because of his obligations at English county side Sussex.

In his absence, Bermuda completed their campaign with only a solitary point to show from 15 matches.

The former Warwick and PHC all-rounder is also looking forward to playing another season in England next summer after signing a contract extension with Sussex.

“I’m excited to continue on for another year,” he said. “Looking forward to going bigger in 2023 and helping the team to win.”

Rawlins played a key role in the Sussex Sharks reaching the semi-finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup, achieving List A career-bests with the bat (91) and ball (three for 22).
